Concept Art

What is Concept Art?

Concept art is an artwork specifically created to interpret ideas of an art director, to 'make real' what is just an intangible idea within the minds of the client, or to act as a unifying force for a lot of different ideas from a lot of different people. Sometimes it works within a greater concept and offers design choices for specific objects within that greater concept.

Concept art focuses, 'inspires' and/or supports design teams who are building characters, worlds, vehicles or objects for major creative projects such as games, film, television events, or promotions. It is one of the most creative areas of the illustration profession, and the most demanding because you need creative flair, a high degree of skill, an analytical mind and a whole lot of flexibility.

Creating concepts usually requires a lot of interaction with the producers and art directors of the projects, a enormous amount of research and a lot of time. For these reasons it is not possible to lay down even an approximate fee structure on this website. Much must be negotiated with the clients.
